API Pond Master Test Kit

PondLiquid test500 tests

The API Pond Master Test Kit reads the four values that decide whether a pond is healthy: pH, ammonia, nitrite and phosphate. Ammonia and nitrite show whether the biological filter is keeping up with the fish load, pH shows whether the water suits koi and goldfish, and phosphate explains why the pond keeps going green. The kit holds six bottles of liquid reagent for more than 500 tests, four glass test tubes, laminated colour cards that survive being used at the pond edge, and a step-by-step booklet — all in a compact case.

What should I test after winter?

Spring is when ponds get into trouble: fish start feeding as the water warms, but the filter bacteria take longer to wake up, so ammonia and nitrite can climb while everything looks fine. Test both twice a week from the first warm spell until they hold at zero, feed sparingly until they do, and dose Pond Ammo-Lock if either shows. Check pH weekly — winter rain and decaying leaves push it down — and read phosphate before the algae season starts, because a high spring reading predicts a green summer and is far easier to deal with then than in January.

The four pond numbers

Ponds fail in predictable ways: a filter overwhelmed after winter, a fish load that grew faster than the biology, a phosphate level that feeds green water every summer. Testing ammonia, nitrite, pH and phosphate weekly through the season catches all four before they become a crisis.

Phosphate included

Most aquarium master kits leave phosphate out; for a pond it is essential, because phosphate is the nutrient behind green water and blanketweed. Knowing the number tells you whether to reach for an algaecide or to deal with the feeding, run-off and decaying leaves that are supplying it.

Built for outdoors

Laminated colour cards, glass tubes with snap caps and a compact case make it practical to test at the pond rather than carrying samples inside. Over 500 tests is many seasons of weekly readings.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Pond Master Test Kit test for?

pH, ammonia, nitrite and phosphate — the four parameters that matter most in a stocked pond.

Does it test nitrate or hardness?

No. For nitrate, KH and GH, use the API Pond 5 in 1 Test Strips alongside it.

How many tests does it contain?

More than 500 across the four parameters, from six reagent bottles.

How often should I test my pond?

Weekly through the season, twice a week in spring while the filter is waking up, and after any treatment or large water change.
