API Betta Water Conditioner

BettaAloe vera

API Betta Water Conditioner is built for the small volumes bettas live in. Six drops treat 500 ml of tap water, removing chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals and detoxifying ammonia — the toxin that builds fastest in a bowl or a 10-litre tank. Aloe vera helps damaged fins heal and forms a protective slime coat, and green tea extract acts as an antioxidant. The 50 ml bottle treats 75 litres in total, which on a typical betta set-up is many months of water changes.

How many drops for my betta tank?

Count 6 drops for every 500 ml of new water. A 2-litre bowl takes 24 drops; a 5-litre tank with a half change (2.5 litres) takes 30 drops; a 10-litre tank with a full change takes 120 drops, which is about 6 ml. Treat the water in a jug before it goes in so it is mixed, and add it at every water change — weekly for a filtered tank, more often for an unfiltered bowl. The 50 ml bottle treats 75 litres, so even on a 10-litre tank changed weekly it lasts months. Use Bettafix, not the conditioner, if the fins are already damaged and need treatment.

Dosed by the drop for small tanks

Most conditioners are measured in millilitres per 38 litres, which is impossible to dose accurately into a 5-litre betta tank. This one is measured in drops: six per 500 ml of water. A 10-litre tank with a 50% change needs 60 drops, or about 3 ml, and there is no risk of pouring in ten times too much.

Ammonia control where it matters most

Small, often unfiltered betta tanks accumulate ammonia quickly between water changes. Besides dechlorinating, the conditioner detoxifies ammonia, giving a betta a margin of safety until the next change. Pair it with a weekly change and the fish is covered on both fronts.

Fins and gills looked after

Bettas’ long fins tear and split easily. Aloe vera in the formula reduces inflammation of damaged tissue, promotes healing and lays down a synthetic slime coat that reduces susceptibility to disease, while supporting oxygen transfer across the gills. Green tea extract adds an antioxidant effect in the blood.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Betta Water Conditioner for other small fish?

Yes. It conditions tap water like any API conditioner; the drop-based dosing simply makes it convenient for any small freshwater tank, not only bettas.

Does it replace Stress Coat?

For a betta tank it does the same job, with aloe vera included, at a dose you can measure in a tiny volume. For larger tanks Stress Coat is more economical.

Does it treat ammonia?

It detoxifies ammonia in the water, which helps between water changes in small or unfiltered tanks, but it is not a substitute for changing the water regularly.

Is API Betta Water Conditioner available in South Africa?

Yes — the 50 ml bottle is available from Jungle Aquatics in Fourways, Johannesburg, with delivery nationwide; live pricing and stock are on jungleaquatics.com.
